How to report your job contacts
Keep a written record of your work search activities each week. DWS can ask you to provide it at any time, even after you go back to work. File your weekly claim in WYUI every week you want benefits.
When: File a weekly claim in WYUI for every week you want benefits.
Where: Wyoming Unemployment Insurance (WYUI) claimant portal.
When the search starts: Every week you claim, unless you are job-attached or on a union out-of-work list.
Keep a work search log
DWS’s form is the Weekly Work Search Log. It asks for: date, company name, address and phone number, method of contact (in person, phone/fax, mail/email, website), name and title of contact, position applied for, city, state, job #, application or resume submitted? (none, application, resume, both), result (not hiring, pending, interviewed, hired).
The free myjobcontacts app keeps the same details and prints them in the same columns as DWS’s form. Prefer paper? Use the free printable work search log.
Who doesn’t have to search
- You are job-attached: your employer expects to recall you within 12 weeks, paid at least 50% of your base period wages, and confirms it to DWS
- You are a union member in good standing on your union hiring hall's out-of-work list (first 12 weeks of the claim)
Union members: If you are a member in good standing of a union hiring hall and on its out-of-work list, you may not have to register for work or do work search activities during the first 12 weeks of your claim.
See work search exemptions for how these work in other states.
Reviews, audits and RESEA
DWS may ask to review your work search record at any time, including in eligibility reviews and Benefit Accuracy Measurement (BAM) reviews. Answer these requests quickly, even if you are back at work.
RESEA: If you are selected for RESEA, it is required. You meet one-on-one with a RESEA specialist who reviews your eligibility and job search and helps make a reemployment plan. Missing appointments can affect your benefits.
What to expect: unemployment work search audits.
If you miss your number
Missing a requirement can delay or stop your payments. Falsifying work search activities is fraud, and you may have to repay benefits and face penalties.
Sign up with the job bank
You must register for work at hire.wyo.gov within 14 days after filing your claim. If you live outside Wyoming, register with your state's workforce agency and send proof to DWS within 14 days. HIRE Wyoming.
