What changed: Nevada moved to a new claimant system, NUI CSS at nui.nv.gov, on July 7, 2025. It lets you track work searches online and fills them into your weekly certification. The 2026 claimant handbook (version 3, August 2026) is the first DETR document found that names a number (3 a week). Older DETR material only said 'several' activities.

What counts as a work search in Nevada

What doesn’t count

Same employer twice? Job applications must be with different employers. Applying to the same employer again and again when it is not hiring does not count.

More on this in what counts as a work search contact.

How to report your job contacts

When you file your weekly certification, you report your work search activities. You can enter them in your NUI CSS account during the week and they fill in on the certification for you. Also keep your own record of each activity: the date, the employer or organization, what you did, and the result. Keep emails and confirmation pages as proof.

When: File a weekly certification online at nui.nv.gov after each calendar week ends. You can also file by phone with QuickClaim.

Where: Nevada Unemployment Insurance Claimant Self-Service (NUI CSS).

When the search starts: The old DETR work search FAQ says your work search must begin the week you file your claim. Your claim starts on the Sunday of that week.

Keep a work search log

An older DETR work search FAQ says to keep your work search records for 2 years. DETR’s form is the Work Search Record (NUCS 4482). It asks for: date, employer's name, contact name & title, employer address & phone number or website address, type of work, method/results.

The free myjobcontacts app keeps the same details and prints them in the same columns as DETR’s form. Prefer paper? Use the free printable work search log.

Who doesn’t have to search

Union members: Hiring hall union members do not need to register with a local job office, but must seek work as their union requires (from older DETR FAQ).

See work search exemptions for how these work in other states.

Reviews, audits and RESEA

DETR checks work searches. You may be asked at any time for your record and proof, such as confirmation pages and emails. If you cannot verify your activities, your benefits may be delayed or denied.

RESEA: If you are picked for RESEA (Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment), you must go to the appointments and follow the program's instructions, or your benefits may be delayed or denied.

What to expect: unemployment work search audits.

If you miss your number

If you do not do the required activities or cannot prove them, your benefits may be delayed or denied, and you may have to pay back benefits. Giving false information about your work search is fraud and can bring penalties and criminal charges.

Sign up with the job bank

When you file a claim, you are automatically registered with EmployNV Hub. DETR's 2026 FAQ says you must also keep an active resume on EmployNV.gov unless you are exempt. If you live outside Nevada, register with your own state's job service. EmployNV.
