What counts as a work search in Delaware

What doesn’t count

Same employer twice? You may go back to an employer you contacted before, but each week you also need at least 1 new contact for a unique job.

More on this in what counts as a work search contact.

How to report your job contacts

When you request weekly benefits on WebBenefits or TeleBenefits, you give the employer's name, address, type of work, result and date of your contact. You must also fill in the Work Search Log every week and send it to the local office if asked. If you leave out work search information, you get a reminder letter with a deadline to send it.

When: Request benefits each week after the week ends. Most people file on Sunday for the week before. Requests made by 10:30 a.m. Monday to Friday are usually processed the same day.

Where: WebBenefits (online) or TeleBenefits (phone).

When the search starts: Every week you claim, starting with the first week after you open your claim.

Keep a work search log

DOL’s form is the Work Search Log (in the UI Claimant Handbook). It asks for: date (month/day/year), employer name, address, phone number, email address, website, how contacted (in person, phone/fax, email, website), person contacted and title, type of work sought, results (hired, pending, not hiring), application or resume submitted (yes/no), email or confirmation number.

The free myjobcontacts app keeps the same details and prints them in the same columns as DOL’s form. Prefer paper? Use the free printable work search log.

Who doesn’t have to search

Reviews, audits and RESEA

The Division reviews work search logs from time to time and may audit them at any time. In a RESEA meeting, staff check the contacts on your log.

RESEA: If you are picked for RESEA, you get a letter to report for an appointment. Staff help with your job search and check the contacts on your work search log. If you miss more than one appointment, you must complete 10 hours of class time to reschedule, and you can be denied benefits for missed appointments.

What to expect: unemployment work search audits.

If you miss your number

If you do not make at least 1 new contact in a week, you are not eligible for that week, and future payments may be delayed while that week is reviewed. If you ignore a reminder letter about missing work search information, you lose that week.
